And the Winner of the 2009 Golden Apple Teacher Award is (drum roll please) SKDS' Dynamic Math Teacher, Mrs. Kathleen Kensky!
Through the generosity and kindness of the Donahue Family Foundation, the Golden Apple Award has been established to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in the Catholic schools. The Catholic school educator is a special person who directs students on a course destined to reach their full intellectual and spiritual potential.
The Diocese of Pittsburgh Golden Apple Award Committee has chosed Mrs. Kensky to receive this prestigious award at a ceremony on May 26th, 2009 at the Westin Convention Center. This award will be presented to Mrs. Kensky by Bishop David Zubik.
Teachers from elementary and secondary schools throughout the Diocese of Pittsburgh, as well as a school Principal, are chosen from nomination documentation that highlights their personal commitment to Catholic education, their devotion to teaching their subject matter to their students, and their involvement in community service flowing from their belief in the the value of services to others.
We congratulate Mrs. Kensky for exhibiting these virtues and values in her everyday life here at St. Katharine Drexel School and in the community. She is a devoted Math teacher who challenges students to apply their knowledge to practical and aesthetic projects. She is a computer educator who integrates technology and computer skills into the education life of all of our students from K-8. It is an honor to have Mrs. Kensky as a teacher at SKDS!
