11 SKDS Students Will Compete  in the Pennsylvania Jr. Academy of Sicence competition at Penn State

In May , 2010, eleven students from St. Katharine Drexel school will take a weekend road-trip to Penn State University to compete in the PJAS state competitions. PJAS is a national extra-curricular acaademic science competition that provides 7th and 8th grade students the opportunity to present in-depth science experiments to a panel of judges.

Judging criteria are based on preparation, presentation, and rusults of experiments. Fourteen students entered the competition under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Laird and Mrs. Amy Nowakowski, teachers at SKDS. Regional competitions were held on February 27th at Keystone Oaks High School where 11 SKDS students received 1st place awards and qualified for the state level competition, 3 students received 2nd place awards and 2 students received special awards:

Danny Burke - American Nuclear Society Award

Kristin Haas - Center for Neuroscience Award from the University of Pittsburgh

Sean placed 2nd in the State of Pennsylvania for his essay.

During Catholic Schools Week, Sean will be reading his essay to our students in an assembly specifically honoring
St. Katharine Drexel School's commitment to our nation.
